ICC annual conference held in Sri Lanka

The International Cricket Council (ICC) organized an annual conference in Sri Lanka. 108 members of the ICC participated in this four-day conference.

According to media reports, organizing the T20 World Cup in co-hosting of the US and West Indies last month has been a loss-making deal for the ICC. More money than the budget was spent there during the tournament. In such a situation, a three-member committee has also been formed in the ICC meeting regarding this. It includes Roger Twose, Lawson Naidu and Imran Khwaja. This committee will submit its report on the World Cup by the end of the year.

No talk between India and Pakistan regarding the Champion Trophy

It was expected in the ICC meeting that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi could talk to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah about the Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted by Pakistan. But there was no conversation between the two boards regarding this.

The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year, for which 6 teams have agreed to go to Pakistan, but the situation is not clear yet about the Indian team going. In such a situation, the tournament can be held in a hybrid model. There was no discussion on this issue in the ICC meeting. In this, only the budget of Champion Trophy 2025 was passed.

Notice to America and Chile Board

In the ICC meeting, a decision was also taken to give notice to two cricket boards. According to the press notice, notice was given to both the boards for not meeting the criteria for membership of the ICC to the American Cricket Board and Chile Cricket. During this, both the cricket boards have got 12 months time, in which they can improve.

Number of teams will increase in Women's T20 World Cup

Increasing the number of teams in the Women's T20 World Cup has also been approved in the meeting. A total of 16 teams will participate in this tournament from the 2030 edition. 10 teams will participate in the next World Cup and 12 teams will play in the 2026 edition. The last date to qualify for this will be 31 October 2024.

The first Women's T20 World Cup was played in 2009 and then 8 teams were involved. After this, 10 teams started playing from 2016. ICC has also announced 8 regional qualifying places for the T20 World Cup to be held in India-Sri Lanka in 2026. In this, 2-2 teams from Africa and Europe, 1 from America continent and a total of 3 teams will qualify from regional qualifying of Asia and EAP (East-Asia Pacific).
