Sachin said - played without sponsor for 2 years

Sachin said, 'Thanks to BCCI for this honor. The board has always supported its players. I was 16 years old in 1989, today when Ashwin called me 'Sir Sachin', I realized my age. In the opening match, Kapil paaji had told me not to be late. Since then I keep my watch 7-8 minutes ahead, so that I don't get late anywhere. I will always remember his lesson.

For 2 years I played cricket without a bat sponsor, because tobacco companies were offering sponsorships. Then Papa had said that even if you play without a contract, do not associate with bad companies. Since then I have not taken sponsorship from any tobacco company. I have definitely shared all my happiness with my father and my family.
