IND v SA 2025: Axar Patel Ruled Out of Last Two T20Is, Shahbaz Ahmed Replacement

Axar Patel's exclusion from the last two games has caused India to suffer a setback ahead of the last two T20I matches against South Africa. Shahbaz Ahmed has been called up by the team management to replace the all-rounder, who has been sidelined due to injury worries.

Axar, a crucial aspect of India's white-ball strategy, discovered the problem early in the series. The medical team suggested rest as a precaution, keeping long-term fitness in mind, even if the precise nature of the condition has not been revealed. 

The move is typical of India's careful approach to workload management, given the country's upcoming busy international schedule.

Axar’s Importance to the T20I Side

With his ability to control the ball and make useful contributions with the bat in the lower middle order, Axar Patel has been a lifeline for India in Twenty20 cricket. He is an important balancing player because of his ability to bowl tight overs in the middle phase and contribute with fast runs. Specifically on pitches that use spin, his absence will be noticed.

Axar showed solid consistency in the current series, both by limiting runs and giving the batting lineup depth. While missing the last two games prevents him from getting more match practice, it also keeps the condition from getting better.

Shahbaz Ahmed Gets the Opportunity

Axar has been replaced in the squad by Shahbaz Ahmed. Shahbaz provides a like-for-like option and is well-known for his aggressive batting style and left-arm spin. His passion, versatility, and capacity for high-pressure play have made an impression in both domestic cricket and the IPL.

Shahbaz has a great chance to establish his position in India's T20 plans with this call-up. If allowed to play in the starting lineup, he will try to contribute in both areas right away.
