Jay Shah is the 16th chairman of the ICC. He was elected on 27 August. His term started form 1 December.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has taken over as the chairman of the International Cricket Council i.e. ICC. 36-year-old Jay Shah, who replaced New Zealand's Greg Barclay, has become the youngest chairman of the ICC.
The ICC gave this information in a social media post. The organization wrote on Sunday - With the start of Jay Shah's tenure as ICC Chairman, a new chapter of global cricket has begun. After assuming office, Shah said in his first statement that promoting different formats of cricket and accelerating women's cricket is our priority.

Shah said - will work to make cricket more attractive
Shah said, "I am grateful for the support and trust of the Directors and Member Boards on being elected to the role of ICC President. Global cricket has immense potential and I look forward to working with the ICC team and member countries to take the game to new heights at every opportunity."
Jay Shah was elected unopposed ICC Chairman
ICC Chairman Greg Barclay's term ended on 30 November. He was in this position since 2020. The ICC had informed on 20 August that Barclay would not take a third term. After this, applications were sought for the new chairman. By the last date for filing nominations, Tuesday, August 27, no one other than Jay had filed a nomination for the post. In such a situation, there was no election and he was elected unopposed.

Jay Shah turned 36 on 22 September this year. He is the youngest chairman of the ICC. All the 15 chairmen who became president before him were more than 55 years old. In 2006, South Africa's Percy Sonn became the youngest president at the age of 56. Jay Shah is 20 years younger than him.
Started from Ahmedabad Cricket Board, active for 15 years
Jay Shah became a member of the executive board of the Central Cricket Board of Ahmedabad in 2009. In September 2013, he became the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). In 2015, he became a member of the Finance Committee of BCCI. In 2019, he became the secretary of BCCI for the first time. After that, he was re-elected as the Secretary of ICC in 2022.
Shah became the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2021. In January 2024, he was re-elected as ACC President. In 2022, he was appointed Chairman of the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee of the International Cricket Council. He was also made a member of the ICC Olympic Working Group for the Olympic Games.
On being elected chairman, he said - will give global recognition to cricket
Jay Shah was elected ICC chief on 27 August. Then he had said, "Thank you everyone for electing me as the chairman of ICC. I will continue to work to promote cricket globally. At present, it is important to promote multiple formats of cricket. I will try to bring new technology to the game, as well as take events like the World Cup to the global market."
Shah had said, "Cricket's inclusion in the Olympics 2028 is a big achievement. We will give it global recognition through the Olympics and try to take it to more countries."
The previous chairman Greg Barclay was a cricket administrator from New Zealand. The term of the 15th President of the ICC ends on 30 November 2024. He was the President of the New Zealand Cricket Board from 2016 to 2020. During that time, the Kiwi team reached the final of the ODI World Cup. However, in the final, England defeated them in the Super Over.
