Ben Stokes Named England's New Test Captain, To Succeed Joe Root

Ben Stokes will be named England Test captain on Thursday when Rob Key holds his first media conference since becoming the managing director of men’s cricket.
Key offered the role to Stokes on Tuesday during face-to-face talks in the north-east and though the 30‑year‑old all‑rounder always played down any captaincy ambitions during his time as Joe Root’s deputy, he has accepted the challenge.
English All-rounder Ben Stokes has been named England's new Test team captain and will succeed Joe Root. The latest decision was taken by new managing director Rob Key.
Recently, Joe Root had resigned from the captaincy of the Test. Stokes has agreed to this after a meeting with the new director of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Rob Key.
"I am honoured to be given the chance to lead the England Test team," said Stokes as reported by BBC.
"This is a real privilege, and I'm excited about getting started this summer."
Root has announced to step down as the captain of the Test team after the humiliating defeats against Australia and West Indies. England's performance in the World Test Championship 2021-2023 under Root's captaincy was disappointing. The team has managed to win only one match out of 13 during this period. England is at the bottom of the WTC points table at 10th position.
