In an unsubstantiated shot to his teammates in South Africa who chose to skip the home series against Bangladesh to play in the 2022 IPL, test captain Dean Elgar stated that his choice for the national team was not in his hands. In the absence of major Test stars including Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen and Marco Jansen, South Africa finished the 2-0 series that dominated Bangladesh.
At a press conference after the match after South Africa completed the 2nd Exam on Monday morning, Elgar said, “I don’t know if those people will be re-elected; it’s out of my hands.”
His words were echoed by South Africa head coach Mark Bouncer who said, “They went to the IPL and vacated their seats.”
Elgar had urged the stars before the series to prioritize playing for South Africa before the IPL.
Meanwhile, a clean sweep in Bangladesh closed an attractive earth season for South Africa after beating India in the three -match Test series earlier this year in January.
Elgar says he is happy with the progress for him as captain. “If you play cricket well and the results will work your way, it will ease the burden of the captain. Last year has been a lot of testing off the field, but I have a core of incredible players around me who understand me as a character and respect me as a player and “People. They understand the kind of cricket I want to play. Most of the senior guys have bought into it. I am in a very special place, which makes me more happy about what I do,” said Elgar.
