Pitch Report :
The series between India and England was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium and the ball really traveled very nicely off the surface. That means the fast-bowlers are going to have something to work and the batsmen should enjoy their time in the middle as well.
A high-scoring match where 300 or more runs are going to be scored in each inning is likely.
Weather Report :
The temperature on matchday in Ahmedabad is expected to range between 13 and 31 degrees Celsius. There is no chance of rain predicted on Sunday, so a full game should ensue.
Probable XI :
India:
Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav/Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
West Indies:
Shai Hope (WK), Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Shamarh Brooks, Kieron Pollard (C), Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Fabian Allen, Alzaari Joseph, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith
Preview :
India and West Indies are going to be playing an ODI series in Ahmedabad and for a lot of reasons, this series is more important than most bilateral series. India is going to start life under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and has also made some important changes to its lineup.
The West Indian players will have one eye on the IPL Auction around the corner and that will give them all the motivation needed to perform at their best.
India was supposed to be at full strength for this match but a COVID outbreak has meant that Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are not going to be available for selection. We cannot help but think that this is a positive thing for India in the long run.
Rohit Sharma has to decide whether Lokesh Rahul is the answer to India's opening need or give someone like Ishan Kishan a run. Either way, India will be with a new combination and that makes it a bit more vulnerable. Virat Kohli will bat at three while Suryakumar Yadav, Rishab Pant, and Deepak Hooda will form the middle-order.
Five out of the previous eight ODI centuries that Kohli has made have come against the West Indies and he might be an excellent pick to score a century in this match as well. The betting odds are probably the best you are ever going to get for a player like him.
West Indies has not had a good time in the ODI's off late. It lost a series at home to Ireland and is now going to go up against India in India. Never an easy task. West Indies also needs to win this series 3-0 if possible to try and have a chance of qualifying directly for the ODI World Cup in India in 2023.
Brandon King and Shai Hope are likely to open the batting for the West Indies with Nkrumah Bonner, Darren Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, and Fabian Allen rounding out the top-7. As always, there is a lot of power in this lineup and plenty of experience of playing in India as well.
Akeal Hossain, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, and Kemar Roach/Odean Smith should find a place in the playing eleven as well.
The depth in batting for the West Indies is just incredible and no team is capable of matching it in that regard. Whether these players can actually turn potential into performance remains to be seen.
