Karnataka and Tamil Nadu take on each other in the grand finale of the tournament. Both sides are coming off terrific respective runs in the matches gone by and will settle for nothing less than a title.
The final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is to be played Tamil Nadu and Karnataka at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi on November 22nd, 2021. Both sides did incredibly well in the previous matches and will be coming out all guns blazing. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Tamil Nadu have been one of the most successful sides over the years in India's domestic circuit. They made it to the finale of the 2019 edition of the tournament before edging out to Karnataka in the final.
What has worked for Tamil Nadu so far is the ability of their players to contribute in the different stages of the game. The likes of N Jagadeesan, C Hari Nishanth, Vijay Shankar, and B Sai Sudharsan have already scored plenty in the tournament thus far and as it has proved, any of them could be a match-winner for them. Besides, they also have the services of Shahrukh Khan, who impressed massively in the previous matches and the last edition of the Indian Premier League.
On the bowling front as well, Tamil Nadu are placed particularly well. The likes of Sandeep Warrier, P Saravana Kumar, and R Sai Kishore have incredibly well in the tournament and if T Natarajan is fit for the upcoming match, their bowling will have all their bases covered.
Tamil Nadu may not be having the star power or many players with international experience that Karnataka have, they do have a team that is known to punch way above its weight. They have been in a terrific form already and might well be bolstered by the return of T Natarajan. This is going to be a tough match for them, but if they are able to play as they have, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.
Karnataka too are one of the most successful sides in the history of the competition and will be looking to win their third Syed Mushtaq Ali title when they take on Tamil Nadu in this upcoming contest. Karnataka are coming off a strong win over Vidarbha in the semi-final and will need a similar set of performances from their star players for one more time.
Rohan Kadam played a brilliant knock against Vidarbha in the semi-final and will need to do something similar along with Manish Pandey. Although they have a decent middle-order, the fact that it has not been amongst the runs is one factor that they will need to be wary of. Also, Manish Pandey is known to be a slow starter, which Tamil Nadu will be keen to exploit.
Unlike Tamil Nadu, Karnataka has more to worry about their bowling than batting. Their bowling unit looks rather inexperienced with almost no one having big match experience. It could be a big challenge while playing against Tamil Nadu in the final of the tournament. Consequently, a lot will depend on how the duo of KC Cariappa and J Suchith bowl in the upcoming game.
All in all, Karnataka do have the fire-power on paper, but they also appear to be a little too over-dependent on Manish Pandey and Rohan Kadam with their middle-order not being consistent. They have their vulnerabilities exposed and if they can take care of those, they should be able to grab yet another title with a win in this upcoming contest.
