Antigua & Barbuda Falcons’ CPL campaign didn’t take off well as they lost to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a pulsating last-ball finish on Friday. Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors, on the other hand, are eyeing a fresh start and want to recreate the performances from last year.
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in their first ever CPL game who gave their everything till the last moment however ended up on the losing side on the final ball. 17-year-old batter Jewel Andrew was on full throttle on his CPL debut to notch up a 30-ball 50* while all-rounder Shamar Springer’s 4-wicket haul was the main highlight in the game. Batters Fakhar Zaman did well for his 43 while Fabian Allen played a decisive role (24*runs) in steering the side to 163 for 4. Even the smallest of mistakes will cost the game and it was evident when Imad Wasim dropped a regulation chance giving a reprieve to Dominic Drakes in the 15th over. Mistakes apart, they fought back well to push the game to the final ball which shows their character and they want to keep up the same tempo going forward in the tournament.
Guyana Amazon Warriors holds the unique record of reaching the most finals (6) in the Caribbean Premier League. They will be defending the title this time having crowned champions last season beating star-studded Trinbago Knight Riders in the finals by 9 wickets.
