Preview :

The second-last group stage match of Asia Cup 2022 will see Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh for a spot in the Super 4s. The performances of these two teams haven’t been up to the mark so far in this Asia Cup, and they would be hoping to better their chances here. Both of these teams belong to Group B, along with Afghanistan. Afghanistan defeated both of them to make its way through to the Super 4. This match will decide the second team to qualify from Group B for the Super 4s.

Bangladesh's T20 cricket is perhaps at its lowest point. Senior cricketers like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mustafizur Rahman have been around for a long time but they look to be past their best now. The youngsters have not come through as expected and the style of cricket that Bangladesh plays is outdated. It will take something drastic for Bangladesh to turn things around and we are not sure if they have the tools to do that in this contest. A lot will depend on Shakib and Mushfiqur but Mohammad Naim is another batter that you should watch out for. Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, and Mahmudullah are the power-hitters of the group but we would not really bank on any one of them in this match. Bangladesh's bowling is also quite weak as Sri Lanka's captain pointed out in his press conference. Take Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman out and you are struggling to find another quality bowler.

Sri Lanka was absolutely crushed by Afghanistan in the previous match but that is not an accurate representation of the improvement the team has made recently. The batting lineup is quite good with players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Charitha Asalanka in the top order. These are good players of spin and with two left-handers, they are well placed to counter the threat that Shakib Al Hasan will pose. There is also a decent amount of depth in the batting with Shanaka, Karunaratne, and Hasaranga. The bowling lineup for Sri Lanka is quite spin-heavy and that can be a problem if they bowl second.
