Brisbane Heat (HEA) will take on Perth Scorchers (SCO) in the 32nd match of the BBL 2023-2024, on January 10, at The Gabba in Brisbane. In a gripping match against the Hobart Hurricanes, the Brisbane Heat secured their spot as the first team to enter the BBL playoffs this season, clinching a nail-biting one-run victory. With this win, Brisbane has guaranteed themselves a top-three finish in the regular season. Their upcoming two matches are against the defending champions, the Perth Scorchers, currently holding second place with 11 points from 7 games and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.027.
The Heat have dazzled brightly this season, claiming victory in six out of eight matches, remaining unbeaten as two matches were abandoned. A twist in their lineup sees the return of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, both now available for selection after their appearance in the season opener against the Melbourne Stars. This addition poses a selection challenge for the Heat, stirring up anticipation for their upcoming clashes.
Brisbane Heat has the winning formula for every situation as they are outsmarting the opposition with well-planned strategies. Now they are unbeaten in this BBL winning 6 matches while the other two have been carried away by rain. It didn’t matter for them while defending 132 runs against Hobart Hurricanes as they pulled off a thrilling one-run win (DLS method) when the revised target was imposed. Xavier Bartlett shined yet again with a stellar bowling display, picking up 3 wickets while Spencer Johnson and Paul Walter too got into the act claiming 2 wickets apiece. Colin Munro returned to the form with a half-century which is another good news for them as they are chasing the title for the second time. They are well settled at the top of the standings with 14 points. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are back in the squad after fulfilling the National commitments with the former set to take the captaincies responsibilities.
Perth Scorchers had to work really hard to beat Sydney Thunder by 7 wickets on a turning track which also got back them to the winning zone. They even moved one step up in the standings to occupy 2nd position with 11 points. Left-arm spinners Ashton Agar and Cooper Connolly exploited the conditions to their fullest, picking up 5 wickets between them to restrict Thunder to 137 for 8 despite Alex Hales’ one-man show of 72 runs from 55 balls. Zak Crawley applied all his International experience and played the situation well, registering his 2nd half-century in this BBL which steered the Scorchers to their 5th win. They will be traveling with an unchanged squad for their trip to Brisbane.
