Preview :
Delhi Capitals is all set to play against Mumbai Indians in the 16th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on a Tuesday night. Both teams are going into this fixture on the back of no wins in their IPL campaign so far. DC have lost three matches in a lop-sided manner while MI hasn’t been able to compete against two of their fiercest rivals in CSK and RCB. With pressure beginning to build on both sides from their respective fans, a victory in the nation's capital is paramount for both Delhi and Mumbai.
Delhi Capitals changed the batting lineup in their previous fixture against Rajasthan Royals as their talisman all-rounder Mitchell Marsh went home to Australia for his wedding. The return of Manish Pandey to DC at no. 3 in the batting order didn’t last for long as he ended up getting out for a golden duck. Lalit Yadav played a very good inning of 38(24) to steady the ship for Delhi alongside captain David Warner but it was too little for them to pose a challenge to the 199 total put up by RR. The bowlers for Delhi Capitals performed relatively poorly as their spearhead Anrich Nortje was put to the cleaners. Even the decent spells from Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar weren’t enough to save the game.
Mumbai Indians had a decent start with the bat in their home fixture against Chennai Super Kings compared to the trip in Bengaluru a few days prior. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan looked in ominous touch for MI at the Wankhede Stadium before they got out in quick succession. Tilak Varma showed glimpses of his heroics against RCB but he was dismissed relatively cheaply too. With the batters not firing on all cylinders as a unit, the pressure has been firmly on the bowlers to deliver results which has materialised yet for Mumbai Indians. Jofra Archer missing out on such a big fixture against CSK didn’t help MI’s cause either. He was rested for this game as he felt slight discomfort in his right elbow after the RCB game in Bengaluru. It is the same injury that initially sidelined Jofra Archer from playing cricket for the better part of two years.
