Preview :
It is time for some electrifying action when two powerhouses will lock horns against each other. Australia (AUS) are on tour of England (ENG) to play three T20Is and five ODIs. This tour is all set to kick off at the Rose Bowl Southampton with the first T20I.
This match will be played on September 11 (Wednesday). Phil Salt has been given the captaincy of England as Jos Buttler is not fully fit. England have picked a number of youngsters. Meanwhile, Australia, who are coming off a 3-0 series win over Scotland, will feel confident with a strong unit.
England will field 3 debutants on their return to T20I cricket, following an exit in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. Batter Jordan Cox, and all-rounders Jamie Overton and Jacob Bethell will don the national colors for the first time. Other fresh faces John Turner, Dan Mousley, and Josh Hull have to wait for their chances. Phil Salt will lead the side for the first time in Jos Buttler’s absence who has been ruled out with an injury. Salt has prior experience of leading Manchester Originals in this year’s Men’s Hundred. Seamer Saqib Mahmood who is making his National return for the first time since March 2023, will accompany Jofra Archer and Reece Topley in the pace department. Brydon Carse who last featured for England in September last year has made it to the squad. Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, Reece Topley, Adil Rashid, and stand-in skipper Phil Salt have been retained from the T20 World Cup squad. Harry Brook who had a hectic summer has been rested while Jonny Bairstow and Chris Jordan aren’t considered.
Australia got used to the typical UK conditions, featuring in the 3-matches T20I series against Scotland last week and comprehensively won 3-0. Josh Hazlewood and Matt Short will join the squad for the England T20Is. Nathan Ellis is a big miss who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. The rest of the squad for the 3 T20Is against Three Lions remains the same. Matthew Short is the likely starter at the top, given Jake Fraser McGurk’s string of failures against Scotland. Kangaroos now have the luxury to deploy Josh Inglis anywhere in the middle as he is cheeky with his strokes. Skipper Mitchell Marsh doesn’t want to risk playing Riley Meredith who is recovering from soreness, the best option could be retaining Aaron Hardie who is handy in all aspects. All-rounders Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis will play a big part in the upcoming ENG vs AUS T20Is.
