Preview :
England will play India in the first ODI on Tuesday at the Kennington Oval in London, . As the World Champions, England would like to play better in this format despite having already given up the T20I series. The addition of Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, and Joe Root would strengthen the team. They skipped the T20I series and performed admirably in the fifth Test against the Indian squad, which was rescheduled. The final T20I of the three-match series was won by England, but that was against a porous Indian bowling attack. Shikhar Dhawan and Mohammad Shami will join the Indian team’s roster as well. Both seasoned players are likely to be included in the starting 11. Rishabh Pant, who started the batting in the previous two T20Is, would move back to the middle order while Dhawan would bat first for the squad.
England's ODI squad is at full strength and a number of its in-form players are going to be available for selection once again. Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Stokes are all in the squad and will definitely find a place in the playing eleven. That immediately adds so much batting strength to the lineup that was missing from the T20s. We would bet on Root and Bairstow to score runs in this match as well, continuing on from where they left off in the Test matches.
India will be happy with the results it got in the T20 format and from what Rohit Sharma said, it looks as if this new attacking philosophy is going to continue into the ODI's as well. Rohit Sharma said that the ODI's are just an extension of the T20 format. A refreshing change in approach that could be extremely exciting to watch. The batting lineup for India is more or less set. Rohit Sharma will open with Shikhar Dhawan followed by Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer/ Suryakumar Yadav, Rishab Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. We are sure that SKY's performance in the last T20 makes him very hard to leave out but Shreyas Iyer had the spot and scored a decent amount of runs prior to him. Another question to be answered is whether Hardik is going to bowl regularly in the ODI's as well.
