Preview :
England and India will meet in the second fixture of the ODI series at Lord’s, London on Thursday. In the first ODI match, India defeated England by 10 wickets. After winning the toss, India elected to bowl first. While batting first, England managed to put just 110 runs on the board which the Indian side chased down successfully without losing any wickets.
England batting failed poorly in the 1st ODI against lethal bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, failing to play out the 50 overs and getting restricted to 110 in just 25.2 overs. As many as 4 prominent batters - Jason Roy, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone failed to even open their run account. These batters would have to take the mantle in the 2nd ODI along with Jos Buttler to stay alive in the ODI series.
The English bowling was brutally thrashed as India chased down 111 in 18.2 overs. However, they didn't have much to play with and cannot be blamed, certainly not as much as the batting unit.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, pairing up after a long time, etched an unbroken partnership of 114 runs in 18.4 overs to take India to win, and thus other batters - Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja didn't get a chance to bat.
