Preview :
Gujarat Titans (GT) will face off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 5th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25. In the previous season both the teams missed out on the playoff spot finishing 8th and 9th position, respectively. With the tournament celebrating its 18th edition.
Gujarat Titans (GT), who were crowned IPL champions in 2022 saw downhill performances in the following seasons, where they finished as runners and came 8th. Like other teams in the league, they too made plenty of changes to their squad, bringing in world-class players Jos Buttler, Glenn Phillips, Mohammed Siraj, and Kagiso Rabada into the setup. They didn’t give too much emphasis on going after big Indian names in the auction instead, they picked the talented ones. Among them are Washington Sundar, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Prasidh Krishna, Nishant Sindhu, Anuj Rawat, Kumar Kushagra, Kulwant Khejroliya, Mahipal Lomror, and Manav Suthar. Shubman Gill, who has been the constant for the team over the last 3 years, will lead the side in IPL 2025. The other retained players are Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan.
On the other hand Punjab Kings in the last 17 seasons of the IPL, having qualified for the Semi-finals once and made it to the finals one single time. Despite picking the best side in most of the occasions, they failed to leave a mark in the last 10 years. Now things look promising after hiring Ricky Pointing as their head coach, who has built a strong squad for the IPL 2025. They roped in Shreyas Iyer for a humongous amount of Rs 26.75 and didn’t hesitate to announce him as their new skipper. Kings have done their homework by assembling a formidable squad with backup options for every player.
They have five Aussie players in their ranks including Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Xavier Bartlett, and Aaron Hardie, who are all match-winners in their way. Even the other overseas players they picked the likes of Marco Jansen, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Lockie Ferguson bring a lot to the table. Having retained lesser-known players Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh, the talent they possess among the other Indian players is just outstanding. Arshdeep Singh, Yash Thakur, Kuldeep Sen, and Yash Thakur will form their pace battery. Priyansh Arya was fast-tracked into the IPL arena after he caught the attention, hitting 6 sixes in an over in the Delhi Premier League last year. To accompany him in the Indian batting contingent, they acquired the services of Pyla Avinash, Harnoor Singh, Musheer Khan, Suryansh Shedge, and Nehal Wadhera.
