Preview :
Hobart Hurricanes (HUR) will take on Adelaide Strikers (STR) in the 26th match of the Big Bash League. This match will be played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Hobart Hurricanes are seventh in the table with 2 wins and 3 losses in 5 matches. They lost their previous match against Sydney Thunder by 62 runs and will be looking to bounce back. This is a very crucial game for them to keep their playoff hopes alive. While Adelaide Strikers are fourth in the table with 3 wins and as many losses in 6 matches. They have lost their previous three matches and will be keen to make a turnaround.
Hurricanes continued with their tradition in this season of alternating between a win and a loss, as they were defeated by a rampant Sydney Thunders team in the last match. With just 2 wins in the 5 matches played so far, the Hurricanes are 7th on the points table and will need to get a couple of wins to move into the top half. In the last match, the Hurricanes invited Sydney Thunder to bat first but were caught in a dual onslaught by Alex Hales and Oliver Davies. Despite Nathan Ellis picking up 4 wickets, the Sydney Thunder batsmen continued to pummel the bowlers and posted a mammoth score of 228-6. In reply, Matthew Wade played a gritty knock of 67 from just 30 deliveries but wickets continued to fall around him at regular intervals. The Hurricanes were eventually bundled out for 166 and lost the match by a huge margin of 62 runs. The bowlers have done a decent job for the Hurricanes as both, Patrick Dooley and Riley Meredith have picked up 9 wickets so far.
Strikers started their campaign on a great note, winning each of their first 3 matches and at one stage, were leading the points table quite comfortably. However, they saw a sudden dip in form and have now lost 3 consecutive matches and find themselves struggling to stay in the top 4.
The Strikers’ latest match, played against the Melbourne Stars was a pretty close affair. Asked to bowl first, the Adelaide Strikers bowlers weren’t able to tie down the likes of Stoinis and Joe Clarke as the Stars put up a huge score of 186-7. Wes Agar picked up 3 wickets while Henry Thornton added 2 to his kitty. The chase began on shaky ground as the Strikers lost their star batsmen, Matthew Short and Chris Lynn pretty cheaply. However, Henry Hunt and Adam Hose steadied the innings by putting together a 74-run partnership for the 3rd Wicket. Hose went on to score his maiden BBL half-century and took his team within a striking distance of the target. Rashid Khan played an excellent cameo toward the end but the home team eventually fell short by 7 runs.
