India Women and West Indies Women will lock horns in the Match 9 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, 15 February 2023, at the Newlands, Cape Town.
India started their campaign by defeating arch-rival Pakistan on Sunday by seven wickets. Pakistan posted 149 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets, their highest total in the T20 World Cup and highest against India too. In the absence of the star opener, Smriti Mandhana, Yastika Bhatia, and Shafali Verma opened the innings for India. The duo added 38 runs for the first wicket, and India scored 43 runs in the powerplay. By the end of the 10th over, Shafali was also back in the pavilion. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur managed just 16 off 12 and was the third batter to be dismissed. The onus was on the young duo of Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh. They added 58 runs for the fourth wicket to help India cross the line in the 19th over. Rodrigues made 53 runs off 38 deliveries and won the Player of the Match award. Ghosh’s stunning 31 runs knock off 20 balls helped India chase a record total at the T20 World Cup.
West Indies, the former world champions, have completely lost their way in this format and suffered their 13th loss on the trot against the hands of England on Saturday. West Indies won the toss and opted to bat. They managed to post 135 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Hayley Matthews posted 42 runs off 32 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the team. Shemaine Campbelle also delivered a decent innings of 34 runs off 37 balls. Apart from them, no other batter managed to score more than 20 runs for the team. England chased the target in just 14.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
West Indies and India faced twice in the South Africa Tri-Series last month. India won both these games comfortably. West Indies last won a T20I against India back in November 2016 and have lost the previous seven games.
Team Guide
Makes various team combinations with the help of these information.
Richa Ghosh :
Richa Ghosh is one of the most explosive batters in the world with a T20I strike rate of 135.50. She had a fine outing against Pakistan, scoring 31 runs off just 20 balls. Given her recent form and ability, Richa is a top pick for your fantacy team.
Shafali Verma :
Shafali Verma is an attacking opening batter who's also handy with the ball. She has 1264 runs in this format with a strike rate of 134.46. Shafali is also being used as the sixth-bowling option by India, holding her in high regard. Given her recent exploits in the U-19 World Cup and her knock of 33 (25) in the previous game, Shafali is a safest c/vc pick.
Jemimah Rodrigues :
Jemimah Rodrigues played a valuable knock off 53 not out of 38 deliveries against Pakistan and helped India clinch a historic win against the arch-rival. This was her first half-century in the last 13 innings for India, and her only 40+ score during this time came against West Indies last month. Punt pick.
Harmanpreet Kaur :
Harmanpreet Kaur is quite experienced in this format, scoring 2956 runs in 132 T20I innings. Kaur has an average of 28.15 and is known for her big-hitting abilities in the middle order. With Kaur showing glimpses of her ability in the previous game, she is the best c/vc pick for grand league.
Shemaine Campbelle :
Shemaine Campbelle is the talented top order batter, who's just 13 runs away from becoming only the fourth West Indies batter to score 1000 runs. Campbelle made 34 runs off 37 deliveries in the last game. Punt pick.
Deepti Sharma :
Deepti Sharma is a world-class all-rounder, with 914 runs and 97 wickets to her name in just 88 matches. She has a bowling average of 19.50 and has some franchise league experience under her belt as well. Although Deepti did not have the best of outings against Pakistan, her skill set and experience make her default c/vc pick.
Stafanie Taylor :
Stafanie Taylor recently returned from injury, scoring just three runs against England. However, Taylor is quite experienced with 3124 runs in 110 innings at a strike rate in excess of 85. If Taylor finds her groove early on, she could be a must have pick.
Hayley Matthews :
Hayley Matthews has been a consistent performer for West Indies with 1493 runs and 74 wickets in 72 innings. Matthews has a batting strike rate of 103.82 and is capable of scoring big runs too. With Matthews bound to play a prominent role with the ball as well, she is a brilliant choice as captain or vice-captain option.
Afy Fletcher :
Afy Fletcher was one of the better bowlers in West Indies' loss to England earlier in the tournament, picking up one wicket. Fletcher has 52 wickets in 62 innings, with an economy of 5.79 holding her in good stead. With the conditions suiting spinners, good pick.
Radha Yadav :
Radha Yadav was the most economical as well as the effective bowler for India against Pakistan. She picked up two wickets for just 21 runs in four overs. She picked 11 wickets last year at an economy of 7.17. Good pick.
Chinelle Henry :
Chinelle Henry is very impressive in first match, she's took 2-30 against England Women and the quick bowler is our pick for West Indies Women’s top wicket taker in this game.
