Preview :
Ireland will face the challenge of New Zealand in 1st ODI of the bilateral ODI series. Ireland are coming into this series after facing a loss in the T20I series against India, but would look to start positively. They will rely on the performances of Mark Adair and Andy Balbirnie.
Ireland has added a couple of new faces to its squad for the ODI's but whether they actually find a place in the playing eleven remains to be seen. The core of the lineup is pretty well-settled. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie are the players that will pose the biggest threat to the Kiwis but Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, and Gareth Delany are all pretty decent batters as well. Stephen Doheny is one of the potential debutants in the squad but if he plays, it will mean leaving Lorcan Tucker out and that is not likely to happen. George Dockrell and Simi Singh will add depth to the lineup
New Zealand has never lost an ODI to Ireland and is in fact, quite ruthless against the lower-ranked cricketing nations in general. New Zealand is going to be without Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee but it has a very good amount of depth in its cricket from which to choose the replacements. Matt Henry is back in the squad, as is Adam Milne, and both these bowlers are world-class. Lockie Ferguson is an express fast-bowler, one of the fastest in the world, and will test the Irish batters at all stages of the game. The bowling attack is comprised of proven bowlers, some of whom are returning from injury but the real area where New Zealand has experimented is in the batting lineup. Martin Guptill and Finn Allen may open the batting for New Zealand, giving it an all-out attacking pair that will come to all guns blazing.
