Match: India vs Newzealand , 2nd Test Match

Date & Time: 3 December, 2021, Thursday; 9:30 AM IST.

Venue: Wankhede stadium, Mumbai.

H2H Record :

Matches Played: 24

Won by Newzealand : 8
Tied: 3

Pitch Report :

This wicket is expected to be an ideal test wicket as pitch curator failed to remove much grass from the wicket due to untimely rain in the Mumbai. Pace bowler should get some movements on the first day due to overcast condition, later on batting should become easy. Spinners will most probably get some assistance from day 3. As per TOI sources “The pitch has a thick layering of grass. The ball won’t turn much. The grass seems to have grown tall as no cricket has been played on the main three pitches at the Wankhede Stadium since the ODI between India and Australia in Jan 2020. Some of that grass will be cut away, but at this stage, when the Test match is just days away, you can’t cut too much grass. As a result, they have stopped watering the pitch since Sunday.

Weather Report :

Although it has been raining in Mumbai, the weather is expected to be clement during the Test. The pitch expected to assist spinners and that could ensu a result.

Probable XI :

Newzealand

Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Rachim Ravindran, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Will Somerville.

India

: Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav.

Preview :

11.53amWhenever these two teams meet each other, in any format, a thriller of a series is bound to happen. The first Test had everything a cricket fan could have asked for. India needed 9 wickets to register a win on Day 5 but despite the spin trio's scrambling in the final session, they could not break Rachin Ravindra's resolve and in the end, the pitch held on and so did New Zealand. The second Test will now see the return of the regular Indian skipper, Virat Kohli. Who will make way for him? That's the hot topic on social media. Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian to score a century and a half century on his Test debut. Will he still be dropped? Or will it be Ajinkya Rahaneor Cheteshwar Pujarawho are having a poor run of form? There can be numerous permutations and combinations. This has left some selection dilemma for the hosts. Also, Wriddhiman Saha's fitness is under the cloud and there is a possibility that Srikar Bharatwill again don the gloves. Coming to the bowling scheme of things, Ishant Sharma looked completely out of sorts but there is rain predicted for this Test so India might leave out a spinner and Mohammad Siraj could get a nod to add further firepower to the bowling attack in overcast conditions. Talking about New Zealand, the opening pair - Tom Latham and Will Young were very impressive with the bat but it is their middle order that is worrisome for the Kiwis. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor would be eager to get some runs this time around. Their pace department led by Tim Southeeand Kyle Jamiesonproduced a significant performance on an Asian pitch and since their spinners weren't effective, the visitors might add Neil Wagnerto further boost their seam-bowling attack. Both teams had four points to take home from the first Test and would be eyeing maximum points from the Wankhede Test, to address their position on the ICC WTC points table. India might be the favourites again but New Zealand have pushed them close several times in the recent past and the Kiwis will look to go ahead to register a memorable Test series win over India on their home soil. All in all, this game promises to be nothing less than a cracker.
