Pitch Report :

The pitch at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo is a balanced pitch with aid for both batsmen and bowlers. The pitch is also getting slow in middle overs and offers a bit of turn. Spinners are likely to dominate this game given the home side has a rich pool of tweakers in their mix and the wicket will be made accordingly. The dew also tends to be heavier when the humidity is high. Bowling first in the morning conditions is a good option.

The average 1st innings score at this venue in the recent matches is 260 runs.

The temperature is expected to hover around 32°C on the Wednesday with 55% humidity and 15 km/hr wind speed. There are 5% chances of precipitation during the game.

Preview :

Sri Lanka (SL) will be up against Australia (AUS) in a short two-match ODI series after the completion of two Test matches, starting Wednesday, February 12, at R.Premadassa stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka have been building up nicely for the 2027 ODI World Cup having won series at home against New Zealand, India and the West Indies but recently lost to the Black Caps away from home. However, since they couldn't qualify for the Champions Trophy, their only aim in the series will be to defeat Australia and win the series 2-0 while the visitors have much higher stakes.

Sri Lanka needs to drag the inspiration somehow as the results didn’t go their way in the Test series, as they got whitewashed at the hands of Australia 2-0 earlier this week. It feels not the right kind of scheduling for the Lankans, who failed to make a cut to the Champions Trophy 2025 which is to be held in Pakistan and UAE starting next week. Their previous 50-over assignment was against New Zealand away from home last month where they lost by 2-1. The Islanders have trimmed the squad against Australia from 17 to 16 that took part against the Kiwis, with fast-bowling all-rounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe being dropped. Charith Asalanka will continue to lead the side and bolster the middle order. Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Nuwanidu Fernando, Avishka Fernando, Janith Liyanage, and Kamindu Mendis are the main batting options they have. Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage are the spin all-rounders in the mix. They have got as many as 4 seamers in the squad including Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Mohamed Shiraz, and Eshan Malinga. Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay are genuine tweakers.

On the other hand Australia has encountered a big blow ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. Key players Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins have been ruled out with injuries. Marcus Stoinis's unexpected retirement from the ODIs means they have to revamp their squad for the marquee event. The last date to make a change to the Champions Trophy squad is February 12th. The management has picked Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Jake Fraser McGurk, Spencer Johnson, and Tanveer Sangha for the 2-matches ODI series against Sri Lanka, with four of them making it to the Champions Trophy squad. The rest of the 11 members who were part of the original squad of the global event are retained for a couple of ODIs against Sri Lanka. They last took part in the ODIs in November last year at home against Pakistan where they lost 2-1. They are yet to announce the skipper, with either Steven Smith or Travis Head will take charge of the side.
