Preview :

The 3rd T20I match of the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka 2024 will see Sri Lanka (SL) squaring off against West Indies (WI) at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Thursday, October 17. The series is currently squared at 1-1 with Sri Lanka making a remarkable comeback to secure a 73-run win in the 2nd T20I. On the other hand, West Indies who showcased a splendid batting display in the 1st T20I, struggled completely against spin in the 2nd T20I to falter for just 89.

Sri Lanka learned a valuable lesson and introduced additional spin in the form of debutant Dunith Wellalage for the 2nd T20I and it paid massive rewards as the 21-year-old returned with the figures of 3 for 9 in his 4 overs. Sri Lankans knew what they were doing and had no hesitation whatsoever in batting first after winning the toss on a slightly tacky surface and managed a competitive 162 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka starred with the bat, scoring his 12th T20I half-century before departing for 54 to a well-directed yorker from Alzarri Joseph. They largely operated with spin, bowling 13.1 overs in the overall 16.1 overs, which shows their strength in that area. They will be keen to trap the visitors yet again with their spin magic in the series decider on Thursday.

West Indies who were generally big hitters and liked the ball coming onto the bat, couldn’t cope against the spin in the 2nd T20I as a result gave up the match quite easily, losing all their 10 wickets for paltry 89 runs. They were exposed to the rank turners for the first time in the tour and they handed 9 wickets for spin which was completely contrasting to the surface they batted on in the 1st T20I. Only Sherfane Rutherford (14), Rovman Powell (20), and Alzarri Joseph (16) make the double-digit scores. They made one change bringing in Andre Fletcher in place of Shai Hope which proved costly. They must strengthen their spin cordon to counter Sri Lanka in the 3rd and final T20I.

Kusal Mendis :

Kusal Mendis given he opens and his ability to score quickly. However, he will be looking to improve his T20 record on this ground, scored 249 runs at an average of 22.4 in 11 innings. Kusal remains a good pick as wicket-keeper in fantasy cricket.

Pathum Nissanka :

Pathum Nissanka is one of the best Sri Lankan batter at the moment unfortunately he's missed out on the first T20I but scored valuable 54 runs in second game. He has an excellent T20 record on this venue hammered 381 runs at an average of 46.9 in nine innigs. Another best c/vc pick for grand league.

Brandon King:

Brandon King is the quality opener who was made 63 runs from 33 balls in the first game featuring 11 boundaries and one six with a solid strike rate of 191 and gave a great start to his side. He's taken a liking to Sri Lanka in his four T20Is against them. He’s scored 144 runs at an average of 36.0 and strike rate of 155.94. One of the best captaincy choice for grand league.

Charith Asalanka :

Charith Asalanka is the leading from the front and he has struck two fifties in as many matches against West Indies, including an excellent 35-ball 59 in the opening T20I. He will be looking to take an onus on himself in the next game to make sure his side won the series by 2-1. Punt pick.

Evin Lewis :

Evin Lewis is an aggressive opener who has made 50 runs in the 28 balls featuring five boundaries and four sixes and stitched the great stand with Lewis to make sure his side wins the first game. He was great in the 2024 CPL and will be looking to continue his red-hot form in the next game. Hit or miss type player.

Kamindu Mendis :

Kamindu Mendis is in magnificent form across formats, transferring his amazing Test form into a fifty in the opening T20I and scored 51 runs from 40 balls featuring five boundaries and two sixes to help his side stand in the dominant spot. He will be looking to continue his same momentum in the game. He has also picked up one wicket from the first game. Must have pick.

Wanindu Hasaranga :

Wanindu Hasaranga is the world class allrounder who has picked up 14 wickets in just 7 T20I innings against West Indies at an average of 11.00 and strike rate of 12. His wicket-taking potential and runs as a finisher makes him a safest c/vc pick for this game.

Matheesha Pathirana is proved why call him “Baby Malinga”. He has made a habit of taking wickets at the backend of an innings. This translates into excellent fantasy points. He took 2/27 in the opening T20I, including a scalp in the death overs. One of the best captaincy from bowling section.

Maheesh Theekshana :

Given the left-handers in the Windies lineup, Theekshana can be an important player for the hosts. He has picked up 3 wickets in 2-matches in the series with the best figures of 2 for 7. Must have pick.

Shamar Joseph :

Shamar Joseph will be tough to hangle. He bowled 14 dots in the first T20I, finishing with 1/27 from his four overs. The Windies bowler will be looking to take on hosts batting attack in the next game. Good pick.
