Pitch Report :
The batting team has an excellent place to start on the Harare pitch during the first innings. Fast bowlers can easily capitalise on the new ball, as the pitch bounces sufficiently in the first few overs. The wicket is a tad slower than other pitches around the world, although the pace can pick up later in the game. This should help bowlers early on to work with different areas of the pitch.
The average first inning score on this wicket is 290 runs.
Weather Report :
The temperature is expected to hover around 28°C on the Sunday with 30% humidity and 12 km/hr wind speed. There are no chances of rain during the game.
Probable XI :
West Indies :
Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks/Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (C & WK), Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Odean Smith, Alzarri Joseph, Yannic Cariah.
United States :
Monank Patel (C & WK), Aaron Jones, Ali Khan, Jessy Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Sushant Modani, Saiteja Mukkamalla, Saurabh Netravalkar, Abhishek Paradkar, Nisarg Patel, Steven Taylor.
Preview :
West Indies (WI) and United States (USA) are set to face each other in Match No. 2 of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday, June 18. The Takashinga Sports Club in Harare will host the contest.
Two-time world champions West Indies will be looking to make a winning start to the tournament after failing to directly qualify for the World Cup in India. USA also have a strong team at their disposal.
There’s a lot of talent on this West Indies squad, which is full of veteran players and up-and-comers ready to prove their worth. 25-year-old Keemo Paul is an allrounder that the Windies will certainly need to perform at his best, as he was excellent in the three-game series vs. U.A.E. Paul had one great bowling game with 3/34 and another with the bat, scoring 54 runs.
Captain Shai Hope is key to victory, as he has been excellent with the bat of late, averaging 58.57 and scoring 410 runs in his last 9 matches. Although he made only a total of 36 runs in the U.A.E series, he wasn’t really called upon to do too much, as the Windies swept the games easily.
Although Holder and Pooran are important batters, we’re interested to see what Brandon King is capable of, as he’s an extremely talented batsman who can turn the tide in important games. King has averaged 40.37 and made 323 runs in his last 8 matches.
The USA is not typically known as a great cricketing country, but a spot in the World Cup would do a lot to help its international image. There’s no doubt that Steven Taylor will be the most important player on the USA roster. He’s picked up 317 runs in his last 8 matches and is averaging 39.62, but is also productive when it matters. He scored 81 against Papua New Guinea and 79 against Jersey in the World Cup Play-offs, meaning that he can make big scores in do-or-die moments.
Top-order batter Aaron Jones is also someone we’re excited to see against the Windies, as he already has 1,338 runs in just 38 ODI innings. He made a high score of 123* against Scotland last year, and it’s this type of performance that USA will need again.
Nisarg Patel will be a key bowler, but Ali Khan is perhaps the player who can make the biggest impact. He’s a bit hit-or-miss, such as 7/32 against Jersey or 1/102 against Sri Lanka, but he’s still picking up wickets at a quick rate and is perfect for ODIs and T20s.
Team Guide
Makes various team combinations with the help of these information.
Monank Patel :
Monank Patel is the leading run-getter with 219 at an impressive average of 73 for his side in the ongoing warm-up games. In addition, he has inflicted four dismissals behind the stump. Good pick.
Shai Hope :
Shai Hope is the most technically sounded player in the current West Indies line-up. He has represented West Indies in 108 ODIs and accumulated 4488 runs at an average of close to 50. Shai Hope has accumulated 420 runs at an average of 47 in Zimbabwe, out of which 265 runs at an average of 66 have come batting second. Default c/vc pick.
Nicholas Pooran :
Nicholas Pooran is eyeing a strong return to International cricket after a good IPL for Lucknow Super Giants. He even did well in the warm-up game against UAE, scoring 74 runs at a strike rate of 110.44. Good pick.
Steven Taylor :
Steven Taylor is a good stroke maker at the top of the order for USA. In 40 ODIs, he has scored 1137 runs at an average of 28.42 which includes one century and 7 half-centuries, he even picked up 33 wickets as well. Must have pick.
Jason Holder :
Jason Holder is the most ODI-capped player in the present West Indies squad. The 31-year-old former West Indian skipper has scored 2093 runs and picked up 153 wickets in 133 matches. Jason Holder has collected 284 runs at 47 and scalped 24 wickets in only 11 ODIs in the Zimbabwe. Must have pick.
Kyle Mayers :
Kyle Mayers has been a consistent performer for West Indies, showcasing his versatility with both bat and ball. With a commendable tally of 536 runs and 8 wickets in 19 matches, he has proven his worth as an impactful all-rounder. C/vc pick.
Saurabh Netravalkar :
Saurabh Netravalkar should lead USA’s bowling line-up in the absence of Ali Khan. The 31-year-old Mumbai-born left-arm quick has picked up 67 wickets in 43 ODIs with the best figures of 5 for 32. Good pick.
Alzarri Joseph :
Alzarri Joseph was brilliant in the IPL series and managed to be a part of the finals squad with amazing control over his lines and lengths that can show improvements in this contest. Best c/vc pick from bowling section.
Akeal Hosein :
Akeal Hosein has managed to contain the opposition with his bowling talents that have earned him 3 wickets which can be well backed up with his controlled economy rate. Best c/vc pick for grand league.
