The 17th edition of the Asia Cup, which is set to take place from September 9 to September 28, 2025, has generated discussion about both the cricket it promises and the venue. After India's official designation as the host, the entire tournament will take place in the United Arab Emirates, mostly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Political Tensions: The Core Issue

Cricket continues to be hampered by the tense diplomatic relationship between India and Pakistan. India Remains the Official Host — Virtually

India is still listed as having "hosting rights" notwithstanding the physical change. Broadcasters like Sony Pictures Networks India handle lucrative media deals (reportedly worth approximately USD 170 million), while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) still oversees organizational duties, including match scheduling and commercial negotiations.

Culture and Reality

Against political challenges, cricket has, before, found a neutral answer:

• Despite growing tensions, the Asia Cup 2028 was moved from India to the United Arab Emirates to allow for Pakistan's participation.
