In hopes of taking advantage of the nighttime conditions, Sri Lanka chose to bowl first after winning the toss. With Abhishek Sharma and vice captain Shubham Gill playing with purpose, India got off to a great start. Abhishek kept up his aggressive play, scoring a fast 61, while Gill was dismissed early by Therrshara, falling for 4.

The disciplined bowling of Sri Lanka, however, put up a fight against the middle order. Sanju Samson added late pyrotechnics with 39 off 23 balls, while T Verma contributed 49* to anchor the innings. India's top batsmen were held in check by the deft middle-overs bowling of Dilshan Madushanka and Wanindu Hasaranga. India's final score in 20 overs was a respectable 202/5.

Nissanka's maiden ton, Sri Lanka take the match to a super over

Chasing 203, Sri Lanka had a rough beginning. Padya dismissed Kusal Mendis on zero. His maiden century of 107 was smashed by Nissanka's fluid 48, but India responded with Rana, who swiftly destroyed Nissanka's. After K Parera's counterattacking performance of 58, Sri Lanka's momentum was slowed by wickets taken at regular intervals.

When Varun struck twice in the 12th over, breaking the partnership and dismissing K Parea, the match swung in India's favor. Dasun Shanaka made a valiant 22 off 11 to try to salvage hope as the needed run rate increased, scoring 202. The game went to a super over.
