Tim David scored 31 runs on 10 balls; Captain Marsh's Fifty
Australia defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in a thrilling T-20 match. The team needed 12 runs on the last 3 balls. Tim David hit a six and then took 2 runs. With 4 runs needed on the last ball, David hit a four and gave his team victory.
New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first at Sky Stadium in Wellington. The team scored 215 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Australia achieved the target at the loss of 4 wickets.
New Zealand's fast start
Phil Allen and Devon Conway got New Zealand off to a fast start. Both of them took the team's score to 60 runs in just 5 overs. Finn Allen was out in the sixth over after scoring 32 runs on 17 balls.
Conway then led the innings with Rachin Ravindra. Both of them scored fifties and took the team's score beyond 150. Conway was out after scoring 63 and Rachin was out after scoring 68 runs. Both made a partnership of 113 runs.
Rachin Ravindra scored 68 runs on 35 balls.
Phillips-Chapman crossed 200
After the fall of 3 wickets, Mark Chapman scored 18 runs and Glenn Phillips scored 19 runs, taking the team's score beyond 200. Both remained not out till the end and the team scored 215 runs.
Australia lost the wicket of Head early
Chasing the target of 216 runs, the Australian team lost the wicket of Travis Head in the fourth over itself. Head was out after scoring 24 runs in 15 balls. After him, David Warner took the team's score beyond 50 runs. But he was out after scoring 32 runs.
Captain Mitchell Marsh made a partnership of 42 runs with Glenn Maxwell and took the team beyond 100 runs. Maxwell was out after scoring 25 runs, followed by Josh English who scored 20 runs in 20 balls.
Marsh-David won
Australia had lost 4 wickets at the score of 172 runs. The team needed 44 runs on 19 balls. At one time the team needed 28 runs from 8 balls. Here Tim David hit 2 consecutive sixes against Adam Milne. Now the team needs 16 runs on 6 balls, Tim Southee gave only 4 runs on the next 3 balls.
12 runs needed on the last 3 balls, here Tim David hit a six. David took 2 runs on the next ball, now 4 runs needed on one ball. Southee bowled a fuller length ball on the middle stump, David hit a four over mid-wicket and gave the team a thrilling win.
With the win in the first T20, Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3 T20 series. The second match will be played on 23rd and the third match will be played on 25th February in Auckland.
