BCB Launch Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL)

The Bangladesh cricket Board has launched a new franchise league for women’s the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League(WBPL). This tournament will increase women's cricket popularity in Bangladesh, provide a platform for emerging talent, and inspire a new generation of female cricket. It will be possible to begin after the Bangladesh Premier League(BPL) the successful leagues of bangladesh. 

This will be Bangladesh's first women's T20 tournament. The BCB recently introduced a women's three-day competition, and the nation's women cricket players compete in the one-day league in Dhaka.

Following the successful models of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia and the Women's Premier League (WPL) in India, Bangladesh has joined an increasing number of countries that are investing in women's franchise cricket.

Tournament Format

There will be a three team competition, they will play each other twice for a total of six league games, at the end stage followed by knockout and the final. All the matches will be hosted in the top stadium of bangladesh. These leagues will promote unity in cricket, increase female interest in cricket. 

BCB Statement

"The board has been considering the different ways we can advance women's cricket, We considered holding a T20 tournament exclusively for women. Today, we made the decision to participate in the Women's BPL. We want to find out how a women's tournament impacts our T20 cricket, and we have already spoken with a few BPL teams who have expressed interest in owning women's teams. We're hoping it will help our women's team advance” Fahim stated (BCB Chairman)

Challenges And Opportunity

There are some challenges also in launching a new franchise league like Maintaining fan involvement, securing sponsorships, and providing top-notch infrastructure will be essential to the league's success. But a solid basis is provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) and local cricketing communities' overwhelming support.

The WBPL will offer an opportunity for bringing foreign players to Bangladesh and promote interaction culture. It will also increase women’s league awareness across the nation that promote women’s cricket internationally.
