Recently news came about the Indian cricket team's shirt for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan's name is missing on the shirt, which is a custom in ICC tournaments where the names of competing countries are frequently printed as a sign of respect.

ICC Guidance On Jersey

During big tournaments, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has strict rules regarding team shirts. In accordance with these guidelines:

Balance and Inclusion:

Jerseys must follow inclusive design guidelines, fairly portraying each participating team.

Approval Procedure:

Even before being formally introduced, every jersey design needs ICC approval.

Non-Discrimination Clause:

It may be against the ICC's rule of conduct to try to marginalize or exclude a participating country's representation.

Teams or boards may receive warnings, fines, or a reduction in tournament points if found guilty of breaking these rules..

BCCI Statement

There is no demand requiring the names of all other teams to be included, and the jersey design was granted approval in accordance with ICC standards. In its official statement, the BCCI said, "We were focused on celebrating Indian cricket and its legacy in international tournaments."

Pakistan Response

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has demanded prompt action and voiced dissatisfaction. In a formal statement, the PCB asked the ICC to make sure that its regulations are followed and demanded an explanation from the BCCI.

"Cricket is an international sport that fosters peace. The PCB said, "Such acts are in opposition to the spirit of the game and the values we uphold as a global cricketing family."
