BCCI said No hurry on Kohli-Rohit's ODI future
Updated - 11-AUG-2025 14:16 IST

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not in a hurry about the ODI career of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and is not going to take any decision in this regard soon.
India's ODI series against Bangladesh in August has been canceled. In such a situation, India will play its next ODIs in the Australia series to be held from 19 to 25 October.
Some media reports claimed that the BCCI could give a farewell match to both the veterans in Sydney (October 25), but board sources have rejected it. According to news agency PTI, a BCCI source told them,
If Rohit and Kohli have something in mind, they will tell the BCCI, as they did before the England Test tour. At present, the focus is on the T20 World Cup to be held in February and the preparations before that. The next big goal is to field the best team in the Asia Cup T20.
Last played together in Champions Trophy
The last time Virat and Rohit played together in ODIs was in the Champions Trophy in Dubai, where Kohli scored a century against Pakistan and Rohit scored a half-century in the final. Both have not played any match since IPL.
Kohli recently shared a photo of an indoor net session in London, where he was seen with IPL team Gujarat Titans' assistant coach Naeem Amin. Rohit was currently on the England tour, where he went to watch the India-England match at The Oval. Rohit is preparing to return to Mumbai and start training.
The board rejected media reports
Some media reports claimed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's Australia tour could be the last. But board sources denied any such thing. The source further said that during the Australia and South Africa series, India-A and South Africa-A will play three List-A matches (13, 16, 19 November, Rajkot), in which there can be discussion on both of them playing.
Kohli-Rohit can play in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Kohli-Rohit will be seen playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy starting in December and three ODIs against New Zealand in January 2026.
Virat-Rohit have retired from T20 and Test cricket
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from International T20 and Test cricket. Rohit retired from Test cricket on 7 May and Virat Kohli on 12 May. Earlier, after winning the T20 World Cup on 29 June 2024, both of them had also said goodbye to T20 International cricket.
Kohli and Rohit together scored 83 ODI centuries
Virat Kohli has scored 51 centuries in ODIs and Rohit Sharma 32 centuries. If the centuries of both are added, this number reaches 83. However, by the time of the 2027 ODI World Cup, Kohli will be 39 and Rohit will be 40 years old.
