CSK signed Ben Stokes for Rs 16.25 crore in the IPL 2023 auction held in Kochi on Friday. Stokes is the most expensive player for CSK ever, surpassing Deepak Chahar.

He attracted interest from a number of teams after playing a key role in England&#39;s T20 World Cup-winning campaign earlier this year. The right-arm medium pacer also took six wickets in the tournament at an economy of 6.79.

Stokes also becomes a captaincy candidate as the Super Kings look for leadership options in the post-Dhoni era.

This new season of IPL 2023 will mark the return of Stokes to the IPL. Stokes was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2022 mega auction. Stokes represents Rising Pune Supergiant, who bought him for Rs 14.5 crore in 2017.

The England international has played 43 matches in the IPL, scoring 920 runs at a strike rate of 134.50. He has taken 28 wickets at an economy of 8.56. He also has an unbeaten IPL century to his credit, which he scored for Supergiant against Gujarat Lions in 2017.
