Big News for IPL Fans: Playing-11 to be Selected After Toss with Heavy Penalty for Wicketkeeper and Fielding Mistakes!
In a major development, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced that the playing-11 will now be selected after the toss, leading to a significant change in the way teams strategize. Additionally, any incorrect movement by the wicketkeeper or fielder will result in a hefty penalty of 5 runs for the batting team.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick off its new season on March 31st, and with 10 new teams added to the mix, some exciting new rules have been introduced. One of the most significant changes this season is the allowance for teams to choose their playing-11 after winning the toss and deciding whether to bat or bowl first. Additionally, teams must name four impact players after the toss.
The 16th season of IPL has brought about several changes in the rules, including the introduction of a new rule that permits captains to bring two playing-11 teams during the toss. This allows them to select the playing-11 depending on whether they choose to bat or bowl first. Previously, teams could only bring one playing-11 team to the toss and were required to play with that team for the entire match.
The new rule of impact players also allows both teams to name four impact players after the toss. This rule permits teams to replace one player from the playing-11 during the match using the impact player rule, which can be used for 14 overs during both innings of the match. However, each team can only use the impact player once during the entire match.
This rule also allows the impact player to bowl for a full four overs and bat as many overs as are left in the innings. However, the maximum number of wickets that can fall for a team in an inning is ten, and the teams can replace any player, whether they have batting or bowling duties in the match.
The rule of issuing teams after the toss is similar to the South Africa T20 League SA20, where captains named 13 players before the toss and could remove two players when batting or bowling came immediately after the toss. The IPL's new rule is intended to eliminate the effect of the toss, as it was observed that the teams winning the toss had a significant advantage.
Apart from these new rules, some changes have also been made to the existing rules. Teams now have 75 minutes to complete 20 overs of the innings. If they do not finish within this time, only four fielders will be able to remain outside the 30-yard circle instead of five for the remaining overs.
If the wicketkeeper or fielder makes any wrong movements during bowling, the ball will be deemed as a dead ball. A penalty of five runs will also be imposed on the fielding team for any wrong movement or changing of fielding position before the bowler delivers the ball.
The new rules in IPL have been introduced after the International Cricket Council (ICC) implemented changes in the playing conditions of T20 and ODI in 2022. These rules will be applicable for the first time in IPL, and it will be exciting to see how they affect the gameplay and strategies of the teams.
