Bumrah became ICC Test Player of the Year

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named ICC Test Player of the Year. The ICC announced this on Monday. Bumrah is the first fast bowler from India to get this title. He took 71 wickets last year.

England's Joe Root, Harry Brook and Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis were in the race for this title. Apart from Bumrah, Afghanistan's Azmatullah got the ODI Player of the Year award. At the same time, in the women's category, India's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana became the ODI Player of the Year.

71 wickets taken in 13 Tests of 2024

Bumrah took 71 wickets in 13 Tests played in the year 2024. He is the fourth bowler to take more than 70 wickets in a calendar year for India. Before him, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev have achieved this feat. So far, 17 bowlers have taken more than 70 wickets in a calendar year of Test cricket, but no one's average has been equal to Bumrah's 14.92.

Bumrah took 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that ended in early January 2025. He was also selected as the Player of the Tournament. Bumrah returned from a back injury at the end of 2023. He took 71 wickets in 13 Tests in 2024.

During the series itself, Bumrah crossed the 200 Test wicket mark and became the 12th Indian bowler to do so. 31-year-old Bumrah is the only bowler to take 200 wickets in Test history at the lowest average (19.4).

Took 8 wickets against Africa

Bumrah's memorable moment in 2024 was India's victory over South Africa in Cape Town. Bumrah took 8 wickets in the match and defeated the Proteas by 8 wickets. After this, Bumrah took 19 wickets in the five-Test series against England at home. Due to which India won 4-1.
