Cummins-Starc returns to Australia's T20 team: Mitchell Marsh will captain against New Zealand
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have returned to Australia's T20 team. Cricket Australia announced its team for the T20 series against New Zealand. Mitchell Marsh, who captained against West Indies, will also captain the team against New Zealand.
Australia team will be on New Zealand tour from 21st February. The team will play 3 T-20s and 2 Tests here. Australia is currently playing a limited overs series against West Indies.
Head and Smith also return
Australia has released the full strength squad for the T20 series against New Zealand. The team also includes Test and ODI team captain Pat Cummins along with experienced batsmen Steve Smith and Travis Head. Left arm pacer Mitchell Starc will also be with him.
The team also features Shawn Abbott and Jason Behrendorff. Behrendorff was awarded the T20 Player of the Year award by CA last month. Apart from these, pacers like Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis are also part of the squad.
Warner also part of T-20 squad
David Warner, who has retired from ODI and Test, is also a part of the T20 squad. He is currently captaining the Dubai Capitals team in the UAE's ILT20 league. Along with Warner, the team will also have batsmen like Marsh, Smith, Head, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis. David Warner was the player of the tournament in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Then Australia also won the title.
Only Marsh can captain in the World Cup
Before the T20 World Cup to be held in June, Australia team will play 2 series against West Indies and New Zealand. Mitchell Marsh will captain in both the series. The team's last series before the tournament will be against New Zealand. In such a situation, only Marsh can take charge of the Kangaroo team in the World Cup.
Australia was captained by Aaron Finch in the 2022 World Cup. Finch has now taken retirement. Marsh has experience of captaining Australia in 3 T20s. He made the team win all three T20s against South Africa.
