Ben and Josh’s 4 wickets, India's first innings collapse

With the help of centuries from Rishabh Pant (134), Shubman Gill (147), and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India resumed play in 430/3. After lunch, though, England's seam attack caused a spectacular collapse, lowering India to 471 all out after 7 wickets fell for just 41 runs. 

With four wickets and Josh Tongue's four-for, Ben Stokes led the comeback. Its rarity was highlighted by the fact that this collapse was recorded as the lowest Test innings with three centurions. 

Ollie Pope’s century, England fightback

England got off to a poor start when Bumrah hit Zak Crawley for four. Then, a vital 122-run combination was forged by Ben Duckett (62) and Ollie Pope (100*). With his eighth Test century, Ollie Pope went undefeated, quieting detractors and saving England's innings.

After having a strong start, Joe Root was removed by Bumrah for 28. England was 262 runs down at 209/3 at the end of the day.

In a stunning turn of events, Harry Brook survived after Bumrah almost dismissed him with a delivery that was ruled a no-ball.
