Match Summary

Matthew Breetzke starred with 85 runs, and South Africa scored 330

With his 85 runs, Matthew Breetzke made history by being the first player to reach half-centuries in each of his first five ODI innings. His crucial 147-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (58) was knitted together. Dewald Brevis scored an explosive 42 off 20 balls, and Corbin Bosch added an undefeated 32. With 49 runs early on, Aiden Markram contributed as well.

For the England bowling side, Jofra Archer had an outstanding outing, taking four wickets (4–62). Adil Rashid applied pressure early on and bowled cheaply, scoring 2–33 in 10 overs.

Nandre Burger and Maharaj's bowling performance, England is less by a slight margin

Jacob Bethell scored 58 runs, Joe Root scored 61 runs, Jos Buttler scored 61 runs, and Will Jacks contributed a valuable 39 as England approached the target in a grueling chase.

With just six runs remaining off the final delivery, Jofra Archer brought England dangerously near with a scorching 27 off 14 balls, but he was unable to grab the boundary to force a Super Over.

For the South Africa bowling side, Buttler was threatening to put England over the finish line when Lungi Ngidi hit him with a yorker that changed the course of the contest. To slow down England's progress, Nandre Burger claimed three wickets for 63 runs. Keshav Maharaj helped maintain the necessary run rate by contributing 2–59. The expensive portion of the innings was when South Africa's part-time bowling combo of Bethell and Jacks each let up 112 runs over five overs.

South Africa Led The 3-Match ODI Series By 2-0

South Africa's top-order endurance and tight bowling in the closing overs, which eventually kept England at bay, defined the game. South Africa led the 3-match ODI series 2-0. The result, which marked another series loss, highlighted England's difficulties with ODI consistency in 2025. The final ODI match will be played on 7 September in Southampton.
