The ICC (International Cricket Council) has announced new men's cricket rules on June 26. This rule makes the cricket game more interesting, faster, and fair. These rules will be allowed from the new World Test Championship 2025-27 edition.

Also, ICC has announced that white ball cricket, like T20I and ODI rules, will be implemented from 2 July.

ICC New Rules Of 2025

Stop‑Clock in Test Cricket:

  • Introduced during the 2025–2027 World Test Championship, with the opening match taking place on June 17, 2025.
  • A digital clock must be shown, and fielding sides must start an over within 60 seconds of the conclusion of the preceding one.
  • The batting team gets five penalty runs for a third offense after getting two warnings for delay. After every 80 overs, the warnings are reset.

Short‑Run Penalty:

  • Batters who try to take advantage by running short face penalties: the fielding side gets five penalty runs, all runs are canceled, and the non-striker is returned.
  • The umpire will ask the fielding team which of the two batsmen on the field they want on strike if the batsman purposefully fails to finish the run to steal an additional run.

Saliva‑and‑Ball Re‑shine Rule:

  • Saliva is still prohibited from shining the ball.
  • Umpires can now wait until the ball's condition (shine or wetness) changes rather than changing the ball right away when they notice saliva.
  • This rule is for all three formats.

DRS & Review Enhancements:

  • The TV umpire will also look for LBW if the catch out review turns out to be incorrect, but the ball hits the pad.
  • The batsman will be given out if he is out LBW.
  • This rule applies to all three formats as well.

Caught on a no-ball:

  • The batting team gets one extra run for a no-ball if the umpire's review, or soft signal, is received and the catch on a no-ball is correct.
  • One run for the no-ball and the runs get by running will be given if the catch is wrong.

New Powerplay Rules For T20 Matches:

ICC also announced new powerplay rules for T20 matches. This will be allowed from June 2. This powerplay rule allows that when the reduced of over due to rain, the powerplay will be adjusted according to overs reduced.
