ICC declared Cape Town pitch unsatisfactory
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given an unsatisfactory rating to the pitch of the match played between India and South Africa at the Newlands ground in Cape Town. Also given one demerit point. The second match of the two-match series between the two teams was played here. This was the shortest Test match in history, which was over in just two days.
In this match, both the teams could bat only 107 overs including 4 innings. This was the shortest match in 147 years of Test history, which yielded a result.
Cricket South Africa now has 14 days to appeal after the pitch was given an unsatisfactory rating by the ICC. The board can appeal against the rating within 14 days.
Match referee Chris Broad expressed concern
Match referee Chris Broad has expressed concern about the wicket of Newlands (Cape Town). He said- It was very difficult to bat on the Newlands pitch. The ball bounced quickly and sometimes dangerously throughout the match, making shots difficult. Many batsmen were hit by the ball on their gloves and many wickets also fell due to the strange bounce.
ICC rules regarding pitch
Under ICC's 'Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process', the pitch and outfield are monitored during all matches. The ICC awards one demerit point to a pitch and outfield that the match referee considers unsatisfactory.
If a venue receives 6 or more demerit points within 5 years, it is banned for 12 months. That means no international match takes place at that venue for a year. Whereas on getting 12 demerit points, you are banned for 24 months.
