ICC invites all champion captains to the World Cup final
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has invited all the previous World Cup champion captains (from 1975 to 2019) for the ODI World Cup 2023 final match. Imran Khan, who made neighboring country Pakistan win the World Cup in 1992, is in jail. In such a situation, it is impossible for him to come. Now it remains to be seen whether captain Arjun Ranatunga, who made Sri Lanka the champion in 1996, will come or not.
Ranatunga has many times accused the Indian Board of trying to dominate cricket associations around the world.
The final match of ODI World Cup 2023 will be played on 19 November at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The title match will be played between host India and five-time world champion Australia.
This is the 13th edition of the tournament
Till now only three Asian teams have been able to win the ODI World Cup. India has become champion twice, Pakistan and Sri Lanka once each. This is the 13th edition of the tournament.
The champion captains of the last 12 editions include Clive Lloyd of West Indies (1975, 1979), Kapil Dev of India (1983), Allan Border of Australia (1987), Imran Khan of Pakistan (1992), Arjun Ranatunga of Sri Lanka (1996), Australia's Steve Waugh (1999), Ricky Ponting (2003, 2007), India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2011), Australia's Michael Clarke (2015) and England's ON Morgan (2019).
Even if Imran had not been in jail, it would not have been easy for him to come.
Former captain Imran Khan, who made Pakistan win the ODI World Cup in 1992, is in jail these days. Even if he was not in jail, it would not have been easy for him to come. After becoming Prime Minister, Imran had repeatedly taken anti-India stand.
Imran was arrested on August 5 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case. Imran had sold gifts received from various countries during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Ranatunga's allegation- Jay Shah is running the Sri Lanka Cricket Board
Former Sri Lankan cricket team captain Arjun Ranatunga had recently made serious allegations against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah. Ranatunga said that Jay Shah has influence over the officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. It is because of their collusion that Sri Lankan cricket is in bad shape. Our cricket board is going bankrupt.
Sri Lankan team lost 7 out of 9 league matches in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India and finished 9th among 10 teams. Sri Lanka missed out on reaching the semi-finals and also failed to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. After all this Ranatunga had made allegations.
PM Modi can reach Ahmedabad to watch the World Cup final, Australian PM also invited
PM Narendra Modi can be the chief guest of the final match of ODI World Cup. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also been invited. Apart from these, family members of Indian players, BCCI officials, senior ICC officials and members of state associations will also be present at Narendra Modi Stadium to watch the final.
