After finishing as runners-up in the T20 World Cup in 2014, the team had semi-final exits in the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2016 T20 World Cup and 2019 ODI World Cup. The defeat in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy as well as the semi-final defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup had further added to India's misery.
Captain Rohit Sharma believes that the time will come for Team India, which has not won the ICC trophy for the last decade. Recently, the defeat to Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 left India's dream of an ICC title unfulfilled. Team India last won an ICC title in the form of the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
'We are playing with our hearts'
Rohit said, 'The last three years have been very good. We have won everything except winning the ICC Trophy final. That's one thing we haven't been able to accomplish, but I think the time will come. We just need to be in a good mindset. Don't worry too much about the past, because you can't change the past. What you can change is what's going to happen next. So we are all very focused on that. We are playing with our hearts.
India Lost Despite Good Performance Since 2013
After finishing as runners-up in the T20 World Cup in 2014, the team had semi-final exits in the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2016 T20 World Cup and 2019 ODI World Cup. The defeat in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy as well as the semi-final defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup had further added to India's misery.
What Did Rohit Say About His Batting?
Apart from this, Team India has also lost in two finals of the World Test Championship. Rohit also talked about his aggressive batting style and his approach towards captaincy. He said, 'I wanted to bring some change. The players wanted to go on the field and play with a lot of freedom. I wanted to take the numbers game of cricket out of this team. The numbers are overrated. In India, we talk a lot about numbers and all that. I scored five centuries in the 2019 World Cup, but we still lost. Centuries don't matter.
'Winning trophies matters'
He said, 'I can think about the numbers 20 years later, but what did we get? I wanted the trophy. If you don't win the trophy, I don't think these five centuries matter much. The team's aim is only to win trophies and not individual achievements. India will now be seen staking a claim for the T20 World Cup this year.
