The famous Brisbane Cricket Ground, also referred to as the Gabba, will be removed after the 2032 Paralympic and Olympic Games. In anticipation of the international event, Queensland faces a thorough infrastructure renovation, which includes this decision. With more than a century of history, the Gabba has been an institution of Australian sports, organizing many Australian Football League (AFL) games and cricket matches.

Moving to a New Stadium

A brand-new, 63,000-seat stadium will be built in Brisbane's Victoria Park in place of the Gabba. The opening and closing ceremonies as well as the Olympic track and field competitions are scheduled to take place at this new location. With the support of both Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia, it will be the new home for cricket and the AFL in Queensland after the games, highlighting the sport's long-term prospects in the state.

Government Funding For Olympics

Premier David Crisafulli of Queensland announced the updated infrastructure plans, highlighting how important it is that the new stadium conform to Olympic schedules and standards. The construction of a 20,000-seat arena next to the athletes' village and a 25,000-seat national aquatic complex are also included in the $7.1 billion infrastructure project. In order to complete the projects by the deadlines, the finance approach entails collaborations with the business sector.

Queensland Cricket’s Statement

Queensland cricket CEO Terry Svenson said that “The Gabba has been a wonderful venue for cricket for many years and has provided fans and players with countless memories - however the challenges the stadium faces are well documented, and we need to look to the future”

India’s Iconic Win at the Gabba: A Historic Triumph

One of the greatest wins in cricket history was during the January 2021 Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 final Test match played between Australia and India at the Gabba. After suffering from injuries and losing important players, the Indian squad overcame every challenge to break through Australia's grip and win the series by 3-2.
