With India's defeat by 6 wickets in the Sydney Test, Australia has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1. On Sunday, on the third day of the match, India gave a target of 162 runs in the second innings. Australia achieved this by losing 4 wickets.
Team India's top order failed in this match as well. This became the biggest reason for India's defeat. Jasprit Bumrah, who was captaining in this match, did not bowl in Australia's second innings. Bumrah got injured during Australia's first innings.
Reasons for India's defeat...
Batting order flopped again
Team India's batting order failed once again. Rishabh Pant was the top scorer in both innings, apart from him no batsman could score even 30 runs. Yashasvi, Rahul, Shubman and Virat, all four players could not convert the good start into a big innings.
Pant played well but did not get support
After good bowling in the first innings, India took a lead of 4 runs. Pant scored 61 runs in the second innings, apart from him the rest of the batsmen could not do anything special. When Pant was out, India's score was 124 runs for 5 wickets. After this the next 5 batsmen were all out for 33 runs. Australia got a modest target of 162 runs.
Bumrah's injury turning point
Jasprit Bumrah got injured while bowling in the first innings on the second day. He went for a scan, where the complaint of back spasm came to light. He could not bowl in the second innings, due to which the team could not put pressure on the Kangaroo batsmen. If Bumrah had been fit, Australia would have had a lot of difficulty in chasing the target. In the first innings, Bumrah took important wickets of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne.
Bowlers could not take advantage of the good pitch
Even though Bumrah was injured, the team bowled out Australia in the first innings even without him. The Sydney pitch was challenging for the batsmen, despite this the Indian bowlers could not stop the Kangaroo batsmen in the second innings.
7 mm of grass was left on the pitch, which was creating problems for the batsmen from the first day itself.
Virat batting failed in the last test as well
When Virat Kohli came on the Australia tour, there were hopes of his return to form. He regained form by scoring a century in the Perth Test, but he could not do anything special in the remaining 4 tests. In Sydney, he could only score 17 and 6 runs. He was out on a ball going outside the off stump in 8 out of 9 innings on this tour. The inability of a legendary batsman like Kohli to perform also became a big reason for India's defeat.
