India defeated Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the first T20. India won the toss and chose to bowl first in Mohali on Thursday. Afghanistan scored 158 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Team India achieved the target by losing 4 wickets in 17.3 overs.

The match started late by 3 minutes. Afghan batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was having trouble batting due to a problem with the sight screen. Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who came to play T-20 after 14 months, was run out on the very second ball of the innings.
