In Ishan's absence, Dhruv Jurel got the chance and won the Player of the Match award in the fourth Test. Now Ishaan's comeback seems difficult.

Two names that have grabbed attention since the release of BCCI's annual central contract list are Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Both these star players have been a part of the Indian plan for some time now, but despite this, they have been kept out of BCCI contracts. According to media reports and a press release from BCCI, their reluctance to play domestic cricket had angered the BCCI, and hence, both had to be dropped from the central contract.

Why Was Action Taken Against Shaan-Shreyas

Although no official reason has been revealed for the removal of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the central contract, there was a strong indication in the BCCI press release regarding the case of Ishan and Shreyas. BCCI had written- The Board has recommended that all athletes should give priority to participating in domestic cricket during the period when they are not representing the national team.

Team Management Had Talked To Ishaan

A report by ESPN Cricinfo has claimed that the Indian cricket team management approached Ishan Kishan during the India vs England Test series. Reports say that Kishan replied that he was still not ready. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel got the chance and won the Player of the Match award in the fourth Test. Now Ishaan's comeback seems difficult. Recently, Rohit had also targeted Ishaan and Shreyas without taking names. Rohit had said that only those who have the hunger to represent the Indian team and play for the team will be given a chance.

Ishaan Had Withdrawn His Name

Earlier, Ishan Kishan had withdrawn his name from the series on a South African tour. Then BCCI had said on December 17 - 'Ishaan has requested BCCI to release him from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. This wicketkeeper has been released from the Test team after this. Ishan was expected to play domestic cricket after being away from the national team, but the wicketkeeper-batsman decided to remain absent from the Ranji Trophy matches.

Indian cricket team coach Rahul Dravid had clearly stated during a press conference that Ishaan needs to play domestic cricket or any tournament to earn his place in the Indian team. However, Ishan Kishan ignored this instruction.

Shreyas Also Did Not Play Ranji

Shreyas Iyer had also distanced himself from the Ranji Trophy quarter-final matches for Mumbai on the pretext of injury. However, after this, it was revealed that Shreyas was completely fit and had no injuries. After this, BCCI took immediate action on both of them and removed them from the central contract. However, Shreyas is currently playing Ranji's semi-final match for Mumbai.

Talks Held Before The Third TTest?

Although the report did not mention when the team management approached him, the Indian team may likely have had this conversation after KL Rahul was ruled out of the second Test due to KS Bharat's disappointing performance with the bat. The team management was worried. Bharat was dropped from the playing eleven after the first two matches of the series. Jurel got his chance in the third Test, and the 23-year-old batsman showed glimpses of his ability with both bat and gloves. In the fourth Test in Ranchi, he played a match-winning inning of 90 runs and then scored an unbeaten 39 runs in the second innings to help India win the series.
