Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. 40-year-old Saha has been out of the team for the last 3 years. He played his last international match in 2021, against New Zealand at Wankhede.
On social media platform X, he said, the current Ranji Trophy season will be his last tournament. He has thanked Bengal Cricket for the wonderful journey in cricket.
Saha has taken 92 catches and 12 stumpings in 40 matches of Test cricket as a wicketkeeper.
Recalling his cricket journey, Saha said, 'After a memorable journey in cricket, this Ranji season will be my last. I am honored to represent Bengal once again. I will only play Ranji Trophy before retirement.'
Wriddhiman Saha has played 40 Tests for India. In which he has scored 1,353 runs at an average of 29.41. Saha has also scored 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries in Test cricket. He is known for his wicketkeeping skills.
After the retirement of MS Dhoni, Saha was India's wicketkeeper batsman in Test cricket. Saha is third after Dhoni and Rishabh Pant in terms of centuries scored by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests.
Saha is sure to play for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, but he will not be seen playing in IPL next year. Gujarat Titans have not retained him in the recently released retention list. Saha has also not registered for the mega auction.
Saha has previously been a part of every season since IPL-2008. In the league, he scored 2934 runs in 170 matches at a strike rate of 127.57. This includes one century and 13 half-centuries. Apart from this, he has also played nine ODIs for India, in which he scored 41 runs with an average of 13.67.
In IPL, he has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
Saha, who played for Bengal for about 15 years in first class cricket, played Ranji for Tripura last season. Saha had to leave the Bengal team due to a dispute with an official of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). However, after talks with former India captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, Saha decided to return to Bengal.
