A total of 70 matches will be played in the league phase of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League in which all 10 teams will play 7 matches at home and 7 matches away. The home and away-format is going to return in IPL 2023. After the inclusion of two new teams (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last year, the BCCI did not increase the number of matches per team. Each team still has 14 matches to play in the league stage. This is because the BCCI has placed ten teams in two groups. This time the groups have been made keeping in mind the number of finals played and championships won.
IPL 2023 will begin on March 31 with the first match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CSK will play MI twice on April 8 and May 6 respectively.
IPL Teams
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Titans (GT), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ) ) ), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC)
IPL 2023 group
Group A: MI, RR, KKR, DC and LSG.
Group B: CSK, PBKS, SRH, RCB and GT.
How does the league stage work?
Each IPL team will play twice in its group and only once against the teams in the other group, except for teams that are in the same position. Each team will also play twice as the team that is placed in the same position in the other group. For example, MI, RR, KKR, DC, LSG from Group A will play twice as they are in the same group. They will also play twice in CSK as they also top Group A, the same position they are in. And MI will play PBKS, SRH, RCB and GT only once.
Not to forget that after holding the IPL in Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad in the previous edition, the 16th season of IPL will be played in home and away format where all the teams will play 7 home matches and 7 away games respectively in the league stage.
