1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
CSK has participated in 13 seasons of IPL, where they made it to playoffs 11 times, played the finals nine times, and won the title four times. However, last season, they failed to make it to the playoffs, finishing at number 9. They have experienced players, batting till number 9, and all-rounders, which makes them dangerous on the ground of Chepauk. The team has excellent spinners in the form of Moeen, Jadeja, Santner, and Teekshana. But, they lack fast bowlers, wrist spinners, and attacking batsmen in the top order. New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jameson will not play due to injury, and Sisanda Magala of South Africa will replace him. Domestic left-arm pacer Mukesh Chowdhary is also injured.
Possible Playing 11: Devon Conway, Rituraj Gaikwad, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dubey, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Deepak Chahar, Mahish Teekshana, and Tushar Deshpande.
2. Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals won seven matches last season but couldn't qualify for playoffs. They are still looking for their first title. Regular captain Rishabh Pant will be away due to injuries in a car accident, and David Warner will captain the team in his place. The team has attacking foreign batters like Phil Salt and Riley Russo. Warner and Shaw are a dangerous combination in the top order. There are experienced international spinners like Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, as well as fast bowlers like Enrique Nauté, Mustafizur Rahman, and Lungi Ngidi. But, in Pant's absence, the team will have to find a domestic wicketkeeper, which will deteriorate the foreign batsmen's equation. Marsh will be able to feed only one foreigner from Rousseau. The team also lacks experienced off-spinners and domestic pacers.
Possible Playing 11: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Phil Salt (wicketkeeper), Sarfaraz Khan, Rovman Powell, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Chetan Sakaria, Mustafizur Rahman/Enrique Nortey, and Kamlesh Nagerkoti.
3. Gujarat Titans
The team surprised everyone by winning the title in the last season by winning ten out of 14 matches in the league stage, captained by Hardik Pandya. They have an explosive middle-order batting lineup with up to number 8 batsman available. They also have top-class bowlers like Rashid, Shami, and Alzarri Joseph. However, they lack a domestic player who can play an anchor role in the middle order and experienced off-spinners. Ireland's left-arm pacer Joshua Little is injured and will not be part of the team in the opening matches.
Possible Playing-11: Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade (wicketkeeper), Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Hardik Pandya (captain), Andre Russell, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph, and Khale
4. Kolkata Knight Riders | Eoin Morgan, the captain
Kolkata Knight Riders finished fifth last season, winning seven out of 14 matches. The team struggled to get a stable playing XI throughout the tournament. This time the team has included experienced players like Harbhajan Singh, Shakib Al Hasan and Ben Cutting in the squad.
Strengths: Good all-rounders in the form of Shakib and Andre Russell. Sunil Narine can be dangerous with his spin. The team has good batsmen in the middle order.
Weaknesses: Inexperienced Indian pacers. Lack of backup options for the openers.
Possible Playing 11: Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (captain), Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Dinesh Karthik (wicketkeeper), Harbhajan Singh, Pat Cummins, Prasidh Krishna and Varun Chakravarthy.
5. Mumbai Indians | Rohit Sharma, the captain
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions of IPL. The team won the title last year by defeating Delhi Capitals in the final. The team has won the title a record five times. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the team has been very consistent over the years.
Strengths: Good all-rounders in the form of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya. The team has an excellent bowling attack with Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult leading the pace department.
Weaknesses: Lack of experienced Indian spinners. The team can be heavily dependent on the top order for runs.
Possible Playing 11: Rohit Sharma (captain), Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Marco Jansen, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.
6. Punjab Kings | KL Rahul, the captain
Punjab Kings have never won the IPL title. The team finished sixth last season, winning six out of 14 matches. The team has made many changes in the squad this year and has included many new players.
Strengths: KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal form a strong opening pair. The team has good all-rounders in the form of Chris Gayle, Shahrukh Khan and Deepak Hooda. The team has a good mix of domestic and international pacers.
Weaknesses: Lack of experienced spinners. The team heavily relies on the top order for runs. Possible Playing 11: KL Rahul (captain and wicketkeeper), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan, Jhye Richardson, Fabian Allen, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh.
7. Rajasthan Royals | Sanju Samson, the captain
Rajasthan Royals finished last season at the bottom of the points table, winning six out of 14 matches. The team struggled with injuries to key players like Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. This year, the team has made some changes to the squad.
Strengths: Good all-rounders in the form of Ben Stokes and Chris Morris. Sanju Samson is a good batsman and wicketkeeper. The team has good spinners in the form of Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia.
Weaknesses: Lack of experienced Indian pacers. The team heavily relies on foreign players for their middle order.
8. Royal Challengers Bangalore | Faf du Plessis, captain
Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the strongest teams in the IPL, is once again adorned with big players. The team boasts a formidable bowling attack with the likes of Harshal Patel and Mohammad Siraj, along with top batsmen Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Vanindu Hasaranga. These same players led the team to the Qualifier-2 of the last season, but unfortunately lost to Rajasthan in the end. However, this season, Will Jacks and Josh Hazlewood are injured, with Michael Bracewell replacing Jacks. Hazlewood may be able to play some matches of the tournament, while Rajat Patidar and Vanindu Hasaranga will miss the opening match. Strengths: RCB has an attacking top-order batting line-up, with experienced players like Kohli, du Plessis, Maxwell, and Karthik. Additionally, they have some good bowlers, including specialist off-spinners and T20 specialist fast bowlers. Weaknesses: There is a lack of experience in the lower order batting, and the all-rounders are more effective in bowling than batting. Furthermore, there is a shortage of overseas pacers after Hazlewood.
Possible Playing 11: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar/Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Vanindu Hasaranga/Michael Bracewell, Harshal Patel, David Willey/Reece Topley, and Mohammad Siraj.
9.Sunrisers Hyderabad | Aiden Markram, captain
Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Aiden Markram as their new captain after he led the Sunrisers Eastern Cap champions of the SA20 League. Known for their sharp bowling, SRH has also prepared a strong batting line-up this season. However, they won only six matches last season, and the 2016 champions had to end their season at number 8. Strengths: The team has a World Cup winning leg-spinner in the form of Adil Rashid. Additionally, they have some poor pacers like Bhuvneshwar, Yansen, Umran, and Natarajan, and an attacking batting line-up comprising Harry Brook, Phillips, Mayank, and Abhishek Sharma. Weaknesses: Markram has less IPL experience, and there is no domestic wicketkeeper in the team. Additionally, the lack of backup in the spin line-up is visible.
Possible Playing 11: Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aidan Markram (c), Harry Brook, Glenn Phillips (wk), Washington Sundar, Adil Rashid, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Thangarasu Natarajan, and Umran Malik.
10. Lucknow Super Giants | KL Rahul, Captain
Lucknow SuperGiants, who made their debut in the last IPL season, performed exceptionally well under the captaincy of KL Rahul. They won 9 out of 14 matches and secured the third position in the league stage, eventually finishing fourth after losing to RCB in the Eliminator. However, domestic left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan will miss most of the matches due to injury. Strengths: The team has an attacking and experienced top order comprising KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Deepak Hooda. Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis add strength to the lower order. The team boasts of an excellent combination of domestic and foreign pace bowlers. Weaknesses: The team lacks depth in batting and experience in the middle-order batters. The spin department also lacks quality options. The team lacks good overseas pacers as replacements for Mark Wood.
Possible Playing-11: KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, and Jaydev Unadkat.
Conclusion: Overall, both RCB and SRH have some strong players in their squad, with RCB boasting a more experienced batting line-up and SRH having a solid bowling attack. However, both teams have some weaknesses, such as a lack of depth in certain areas. It will be interesting to see how these teams perform in the upcoming IPL season.
