It’s Difficult for Captain Gill to Play in the Duleep Trophy

The India captain, Shubman Gill, is believed to be ill and is likely to miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which begins in Bengaluru in a few days.
Here are the few reason why indian captain Shubham Gill miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy
Why It’s Difficult for Captain Gill to Play in the Duleep Trophy
Illness and Fitness Concerns
It seems unlikely that Shubman Gill, who was selected as the North Zone team's captain for the 2025 Duleep Trophy, which begins in Bengaluru on August 28, will play because of his sickness. He has been ruled out of the tournament's opening stages after undergoing a medical checkup and is currently recovering at his Chandigarh residence. His absence is due to a health status report that has already been sent to BCCI.
Asia Cup Selection and Scheduling Clash
Gill's selection in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 (which begins in the United Arab Emirates in early September) adds to his unavailability. Gill would unavoidably miss those games if North Zone advances far in the tournament because of diplomatic duties.
Replacement Plans in Motion
The North Zone management has developed backup plans because Gill is out. The most likely person to take over as captain is vice-captain Ankit Kumar. Shubham Rohilla would be selected to replace Gill on the team if he were to miss the game completely.
Important bowlers like Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh might also leave after the first round to join the Asia Cup team. To keep the squad strong, they could even be replaced in the middle of the tournament.
Gill’s Commitment, But Constraints Remain
Gill had stated his intention to play in the Duleep Trophy despite a demanding Test series in England even before he became ill, a move that Sunil Gavaskar praised as a symbol of hope for Indian cricket. He is unlikely to participate, though, due to illness and time conflicts.
