Jai Shah said that Team India may get a new coach soon
Team India may soon get a new head coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon invite applications for the new coach. This has been disclosed by BCCI Secretary Jai Shah. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Jay Shah said in Mumbai on Wednesday that the board is soon going to issue an advertisement for the post of head coach of Team India.
The tenure of current head coach Rahul Dravid is going to be completed in June. Jai Shah said, Rahul's tenure is only till June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so.
New coach will be appointed for a long tenure
Shah further said, other members of the coaching staff, such as batting, bowling and fielding coaches, will be selected after consultation with the new coach. He said, we cannot decide whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. Shah confirmed that the new coach will be appointed for a long tenure and will serve for an initial period of three years.
Dravid appointed chief coach of Team India in November 2021
At present the head coach of Team India is Rahul Dravid. BCCI had extended his tenure in November last year. Dravid's two-year tenure ended with the ODI World Cup final. After this, there was a discussion between the board and Dravid and it was decided that Dravid will remain associated with the team at least till the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup is to be hosted by West Indies and America in June this year. Rahul Dravid was appointed the chief coach of Team India in November 2021.
The tenure of the entire Indian coaching staff, including Dravid, was extended. Which includes batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
Team India won the Asia Cup under Dravid's coaching.
