Kohli can captain RCB again: He did it for 9 years before

Virat Kohli, who has captained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), can once again take charge of the team. According to media reports, Kohli has already discussed with the management and is ready to return to captaincy. However, the final decision will be taken only after the mega auction in November.
Kohli captained RCB for 9 seasons, but he left the captaincy in 2021. After this, in 2022, Faf du Plessis took over the captaincy of the team for the last three seasons. The chances of retention of 40-year-old Du Plessis for the next season are said to be low.
Last date of retention is 31 October
The last date for player retention for IPL's mega auction-2024 is Thursday, 31 October. Before 5 pm tomorrow, all the franchises will send the names of their retained players to the IPL organizing committee. With this list, it will be decided which player will play with which franchise.
Kohli was the captain of RCB for 9 years
Virat Kohli was the captain of RCB from 2013 to 2021. Under his captaincy, RCB reached the final in 2016, in which they had to face defeat from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, Kohli captained 143 matches, out of which 66 matches were won and 70 were lost. In the last three seasons, under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, the team made it to the playoffs in 2022 and 2024, although it missed the playoffs in 2023.
Kohli has been with RCB since 2008
Kohli was associated with RCB as an uncapped player before IPL 2008. Since then he has been a part of the team continuously. RCB has never released Kohli in 17 years. He also has the most runs in IPL.
IPL new retention rule
Before the IPL mega auction, franchise teams can now retain 6 players. Which can include a maximum of 5 international and 2 uncapped players. An international player can be from any country, but an uncapped player must be from India.
Suppose, if Mumbai Indians retain 5 international players, then the team will now be able to retain only an uncapped player as the sixth player. On the other hand, if the team retains 4 international players, then they will have the option to retain 2 uncapped players.
