The former Australian Test wicketkeeper Mattew Wade has retired from the red ball game in order to focus on the shorter formats. The 36-year-old player made the announcement late on Friday ahead of the Sheffield Shield finale, which is to be held next week. That’s where his native Tasmania met Western Australia in what will be his 166th and last first-class cricket match.
Wade’s Statement
He said, “There certainly isn’t (an element of) ‘I’m not playing well enough or I don’t feel I can contribute enough.”“It’s more the younger players have managed to shove me out the door.”
Past Playing record of Mattew Wade
Matthew Wade has played about 36 test matches as both a wicketkeeper as well as a specialist batter between the years 2012 & 2021 and will continue to be available for 1 day and T20 cricket.
Wade’s Statement
He said, “Not playing the longer format of the game will give me an opportunity to get stronger, get in the gym a bit more and have some longevity in that (shorter) format,”
In order to play at the Shield final, Wade has delayed his appearance at the IPL (Indian Premier League) respectively.
